FLOURISH BLOG: Providing tools and (true) stories for creating an inspired, intuitive life.
I rang up Dr. Ava Cadell this month to ask her a few questions on her course 12 Steps to Everlasting Love. I got her on her cell phone, I presume in LA where she is based. I could hear the wind moving through the microphone as I asked her if this was a good time to talk.
“I’m in the middle of lunch, sitting outside,” she said, and she graciously asked if she could get back to me afterward. Of course I agreed.
Dr. Ava Cadell is known as the “love guru of all gurus,” according to Redbook magazine. In preparing myself for our talk I found dozens of magazines that have published her advice. She’s been on over 100 television shows and is recognized as an expert on nearly every aspect of relationships. She also has personal experience to boot.
This is what Dr. Ava had to say.
Aimée: You are the author of many books tell me why you wrote 12 Steps to Everlasting Love in particular.
Dr. Ava: I wrote it because I wanted to share the powerful steps that I used to find and maintain my Everlasting Love. In 2008 my husband and I will have been together for 20 years. If it can happen for me, it can happen for anyone. The strategies work.
Aimée: What is the number one question you are asked and what is your response?Dr. Ava: The most common question I am asked is, how can I find my everlasting love? My response includes six things:
1. By loving yourself and accepting that you are worthy of finding everlasting love 2. By healing from past relationships so that you don’t carry negative emotional baggage into a new relationship3. By creating closure and forgiving yourself and others for hurting you4. By acknowledging your accomplishments — big and small — and rewarding yourself as if you are madly and passionately in love with yourself. 5. By evaluating the kind of person with whom you want to find everlasting love, including all of his/her qualities and attributes. Once you know who you are looking for, you are more likely to find him/her. 6. By going to the places where your everlasting love is likely to be. For example, if you want to find someone who makes good health a priority in their life, go to yoga classes, health food stores and restaurants, conferences on nutrition or the gym.
Aimée: Lastly, why do you believe that everlasting love is so important?Dr. Ava: I believe that the meaning of life is “learning how to give and receive love.” We cannot do that alone. Everlasting love is attainable for everyone. As long as you can conceive it and believe it you will achieve it.
Sounds like good advice to me, I thought, as we wrapped up. And she would know. Nearly two decades of personal experience and work with thousands of others has certainly given her the ticket to the everlasting love we all crave.
